So, it’s been a bit since I posted. I wanted to make a pact to blog at least once every other day. That may sound excessive, but it’s necessary to build up readership and well, habits.
Our family has fell on some hard times, but luckily my husband landed a good internship at a local school district for Information Technology networking. He’s a Software Developer, but I.T. is up his alley.
I’ve been still mass applying for jobs in my field, but feeling a little discouraged that I am not getting work as soon as I’d hope. I’m confident, really creative and have a lot of ambition but there is a real lack of jobs in my field, and because I don’t have a Bachelors degree, I’m getting automatically rejected by Human Resources and recruiters. I fully support getting a degree and getting a good education, I feel that some HR people are a little too old school and heavily rely on traditional schooling to get hired. I’ve been in my field off and on for 9 years designing blogs, developing eCommerce websites and doing occasional social media marketing.
I thought about going into Marketing, but I really feel that it’s a little too different than what I truly am looking for. However, marketing is a great field to enter and helps you tap into your creative spark. I’m good at it and I pick it up fast, but I really just want to be that web designer that designs websites behind the scenes and lets the marketing guru market what I created.
I’m gritting through finding work and still doing projects with my current employer, which has given me significant experience. I am really missing the 9 to 5’er and I’m doing what it takes to push myself back into that lifestyle, even if all the cards are against my favor.
If you’re in my field, you know exactly that this most likely entails looking for work in Seattle. Ugh, Seattle… traffic… traffic… and more traffic. Oy vey! I love Seattle, I really do. I’ve actually been mass applying in Seattle and actually landed one interview in May but didn’t end up getting the offer. The place was pretty cool and I would have taken it if they offered the role. I will obviously take it if I get an offer from a company in Seattle, but again… Seattle traffic is one of the worst in the nation. I may just try Tacoma but we’ll see how that goes.
